Once upon a time, nestled in the picturesque apple belt areas of Kotkhai (Shimla, Himachal Pradesh), lived a couple, Devangni and Bhanu, who shared not only their love for each other but also a deep concern for the environment. Growing up amid the lush orchards, they couldn't ignore the sight of apple growers burning tree prunes, a practice that not only contributed to air pollution but also seemed like a colossal waste of valuable resources.
Driven by a shared passion for finding sustainable solutions, Devangni and Bhanu decided to embark on a journey to transform the seemingly useless apple tree prunes into something meaningful. Their tiny kitchen became a laboratory for experimentation, as they spent countless hours trying different methods to extract value from the discarded prunes.
After numerous failed attempts and a kitchen filled with the sweet aroma of apples, they finally struck gold. Devangni and Bhanu had successfully crafted biodegradable products from the apple tree prunes, ranging from packaging to eco-friendly materials. Their excitement knew no bounds as they witnessed the potential of turning what was once considered waste into something valuable.
Realizing the need for expertise to scale their initiative, the couple reached out to prominent institutions for guidance. With hope in their hearts, they contacted the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research -Nthe Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi Catalyst, sharing their story and the success of their kitchen experiments.
To their delight, the institutions recognized the innovative spirit of Devangni and Bhanu's endeavor. CSIR NIIST and IIT Mandi Catalyst offered mentorship, technical expertise, and resources to help the couple refine their processes and take their project to the next level. The collaboration not only enhanced the quality of their products but also allowed them to explore new avenues for utilizing apple tree prunes sustainably.
Word spread about Devangni and Bhanu's eco-friendly products, catching the attention of locals and environmental enthusiasts alike. The once-dismissed apple tree prunes were now contributing to the community's well-being and the conservation of their breathtaking surroundings.
As Devangni and Bhanu's story unfolded, it became an inspiration for others in the region. More and more apple growers began adopting sustainable practices, reducing air pollution, and creating a ripple effect of positive change.
The couple's journey proved that even the smallest efforts could lead to significant transformations. Through determination, creativity, and collaboration, Devangni and Bhanu not only built a successful venture but also became guardians of the environment, leaving a legacy of innovation and sustainability for generations to come.
